The 250th anniversary of the United States of America’s declaration of independence was celebrated on Thursday in Chisinau, with music and fun activities. In the square of the National Opera and Ballet Theater, photo zones were set up, along with tents serving traditional American food and areas dedicated to US programs in Moldova, reports IPN.

The Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, Nick Pietrowicz, noted that the celebration marks a tribute to freedom, innovation, and opportunity, defining traits of the American people. He emphasized that the United States has supported Moldova through economic development assistance, technological progress, refugee aid, and reforms in the justice and police sector. “Together we are building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future for my country and for your country”, the official stated.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that today’s event celebrates a fundamental principle – freedom, which is not just an abstract concept, but an essential choice. “250 years ago, the signatories of the United States Declaration of Independence placed at the center of the state a simple but revolutionary principle for that time – the individual is the priority, the right. Today, freedom means the ability of a state to protect its citizens”, added the head of the executive.
The Mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, congratulated the American people on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America and expressed appreciation for the remarkable contribution of the USA to the promotion of peace, prosperity and global progress. The Mayor emphasized the ongoing commitment of the American people to strengthen the relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America.

During the event, enthusiasts played basketball, American football, and tug-of-war in the sports area. The program also includes a live concert featuring an American rock band and a screening of the movie “National Treasure”.
In addition to the entertaining activities, visitors were able to find out information about the services offered by the US Embassy in Moldova and about the activities of the American cultural-educational centers. At the same time, the US Government’s educational exchange programs were presented, as well as the assistance provided by the United States in the field of justice.

The US Embassy organized similar activities on April 22 in Balti, and a similar event will take place in Comrat on April 24. On July 4, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
