The Democratic Party decided to withdraw from government. According to Vladimir Cebotari, the decision was taken in the meeting of the PDM’s National Political Council following the parliamentary parties’ unwillingness to have a dialogue and to resolve the crisis experienced by the Republic of Moldova. He noted that regardless of the solutions that will be found later, the newly formed Government will work illegally as long as the Constitutional Court’s decisions are in force.

The last decisions by the Constitutional Court were adopted in a hurry, with serious deviations from justice and from constitutional justice, by applying an arbitrary procedure. This is the unanimous conclusion of the participants in a roundtable meeting staged by the Institute of International Relations of Moldova. According to doctor habilitate in law Alexandru Arseni, the Constitutional Court is obliged to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution and to make sure that any act that runs counter to the supreme law does not have legal power. “The Constitutional Court’s rulings were adopted in breach of the case law. The examination procedure took place in the absence of documents and without listening to the sides,” stated the expert.

The leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase, minister of the interior in the Sandu Government, said the situation in which Moldova is now can be called usurpation of the state power. According to him, the first episode of the usurpation of power occurred much earlier, when the posts were divided between politicians. A new episode was witnessed now and a narrow group of people will answer for it. The judges of the Constitutional Court are among these. “If these judges do not swiftly review their decisions, they will go to jail,” stated the politician, noting there is a group that does not want to concede power.

Political commentator Vlad Țurcanu said the peaceful protest arranged by the Bloc ACUM and the PSRM for June 16 could degenerate into turbulence from which the PDM would profit. The Bloc ACUM and the Party of Socialists planned this event not in order to impress the Democratic Party that blocked the state institutions, but to show to the international community that they are not disposed to accept a different development and will not go to negotiations with the PDM, as they are probably recommended to do from abroad.

The leader of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Voronin considers the formation of the new Government is not legitimate. Persons who had been absent from Moldova for a long period of time were named ministers, but weren’t assessed by the Integrity Commission, which is a mandatory condition. The Constitutional Court during the past few years has been politically biased towards the government and committed different violations. “The first, most serious violation of the Constitutional Court is the infringement of Article 2 of the Constitution, which says that sovereignty in the country belongs to the people, not to a group of persons or to the CC,” he stated.

A number of mayors, deputy mayors and local councilors of Moldova on June 14 stated their support for the legitimate Parliament and for the Government led by Maia Sandu. In an event staged in front of the Parliament Building, the local elected officials presented a joint statement by which they request the Democratic Party to ensure the civilized transfer of power in accordance with the will expressed by the people in the February 24 elections.

The access to the natural gas market of Romania will increase Moldova’s energy security. The correct management of the investment, technical and even geopolitical aspects can play a decisive role in the complete materialization of the network for transporting natural gas from Romania to Chisinau. Ana Otilia Nuțu, energy expert of Expert-Forum, said that until the project is completed, the necessary regulations should be worked out so as to ensure real competition in the gas sector and the complete implementation of the Third Energy Package. For the entry of Romanian and Ukrainian suppliers into the Moldovan gas market and for the use of the gas infrastructure of Ukraine, it is essential to apply the rules of the common European energy market in the region – in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania – without exception.
Tanks with drinking water were placed in the public parks of the capital city. According to the water supplier SA “Apă-Canal Chisinau”, the decision forms part of the complex measures aimed at minimizing the impact of high temperatures on the health of the citizens of Chisinau municipality. In the period, the municipal subdivisions, in concert with the Chisinau Public Health Center and the municipal food safety division, will ensure the monitoring of the quality of perishable products, including the food storage conditions in markets.
