Local elected officials give support to Sandu Government

A number of mayors, deputy mayors and local councilors of Moldova on June 14 stated their support for the legitimate Parliament and for the Government led by Maia Sandu. In an event staged in front of the Parliament Building, the local elected officials presented a joint statement by which they request the Democratic Party to ensure the civilized transfer of power in accordance with the will expressed by the people in the February 24 elections, IPN reports.

Petru Frunze, MP of the Bloc ACUM, praised the local elected officials for their courage. “The Government that is now functional and legal needs the people’s support,” stated Petru Frunze, who is the former mayor of Puhoi village of Ialoveni district. The MP said he submitted a bill on the decentralization of public finances so that the local taxes remain at the disposal of the local authorities for implementing development projects and these do not have to wait for money from the central budget.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Maia Sandu said the mayors, deputy mayors and councilors who came to the Parliament Building represent tens of thousands of people and the support thrown to the democratically invested government. “You should be responsible only to those who elected you. No party, even a ruling one, should dare to impose its position on you. Nobody will harass you from now on. What we said in time as to the independence of the local public administration will be delivered,” stated Maia Sandu.

Gheorghe Răileanu, mayor of Cimișlia, said not only the state, but also the mayor’s offices are captured. “A city cannot prosper when the whole Republic of Moldova is in poverty,” he stated, noting the Democratic Party’s chance is to abandon its elite and to take part in the political life from the opposition.

Vitalie Șalari, mayor of Băcioi, read a statement saying the inhabitants of the commune condemn the dualism of the power in Chisinau and the uncertainty. “I welcome the parliamentary coalition formed in the interests of the people that resulted in the election of the Parliament’s administrative bodies and the installation of the new Government,” stated the mayor, calling on the citizens to take part in the people’s march set for June 16 in a large number.

Ungheni district councilor Corneliu Prepeliță said 12 local councils of Ungheni district signed the statement in support of the Government led by Maia Sandu. The same statement was signed by teachers and doctors from Ungheni district.

Nisporeni district councilor Ion Triboi said it is very important to prevent scammers from profiting from the changes taking place in Moldova as Plahotniuc did from the results of the revolution of 2009. The people should profit from changes from now on.

Minister of the interior in the Sandu Government Andrei Năstase, Deputy Prime Minister, assured that all the employees of the Chisinau City Hall are near the new Government elected by Parliament.
