US President Donald Trump plans to impose tariffs of 50% against the European Union from June 1. The announcement was made by the White House leader on social media, saying that talks between Washington and Brussels are “going nowhere”, IPN reports.

“The European Union, formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the US on trade, has been tough to deal with. Their harsh trade barriers, VAT taxes, ridiculous corporate penalties, non-monetary trade barriers, currency manipulation, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against American companies, and more, have resulted in a trade deficit with the US of over $250 million dollars a year, a number that is totally unacceptable,” Donald Trump said.

In early April, the US president announced an increase in tariffs on most imports, which were subsequently suspended for 90 days for over 75 countries, including Moldova and EU countries.

It’s unclear whether the 50% tariffs will be added to the 10% tariffs Donald Trump set in April or replace them.
