Tiraspol reintroduces a state of emergency in the economy. This is in spite of the fact that the previously instituted period ended on June 8th, and the so-called Supreme Soviet ended their session on June 9th. Additionally, a separate “law” was already adopted, which provided for temporary measures for the month of June. The decision to establish a state of emergency was approved today, June 11th, during an extraordinary meeting of the so-called Supreme Soviet, according to IPN.

The previous state of emergency regime in Transnistria was in effect for half a year – from December 11, 2024 to June 8, 2025. This is the maximum term in which a state of emergency can be instituted, according to the legislation in the region.

Therefore, the extension was not possible and due to these reasons, on June 6th, the regional administration issued a so-called law, through which they introduced temporary measures until June 30th. Among these measures are the prohibition of disconnection from public utilities, cancellation of fines and penalties for late payments, as well as certain facilities in the budget and labor sectors.

The so-called law came into effect on June 9th, on the same day that the Supreme Soviet officially ended its unprecedented nine-month session. However, on June 10th, the Soviet received a decree regarding the new state of emergency regime, and on June 11th it was approved in an extraordinary meeting. The official reason, as before, remains the interruption of gas supply.
