The “Spring 2026” planting campaign was launched on both banks of the Prut on Saturday. The first actions took place in Sculeni, Iasi County, Romania, where volunteers and foresters planted oak and ash saplings. In the Republic of Moldova, the start of the plantings was given in Blindesti, Ungheni district, reports IPN.
The Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, participated in the launch of the campaign across the Prut, together with the Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests of Romania, Diana Buzoianu. Subsequently, the officials moved to kick off the plantings also in the Republic of Moldova.
“We have a complicated mission, but not an impossible one. The most important thing is that we have a starting point and we will continue until the forest rehabilitation and expansion program is fully implemented,” declared Gheorghe Hajder. According to him, the goal for this spring is 3 thousand hectares, and by the end of the year a total of 7 thousand hectares should be planted.
“Today we are at a premiere event. Environmental protection and forest protection have no borders. I am convinced that in Moldova you will achieve all the proposed objectives for afforestation,” said Minister Diana Buzoianu.
