The Director General of the National Agency for Energy Regulation, Alexei Taran, has been elected president of the Regulatory Committee of the Energy Community for a two-year term. The President of the Committee is elected by secret ballot among the heads of national regulatory authorities from the member states of the Energy Community, reports IPN.
Currently, the members of this structure include the member states of the European Union and several countries from South-East and Eastern Europe. These are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia, to which Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Georgia are added. These countries, called “contracting parties”, participate in the same energy rules framework, even if they are not members of the European Union.
In his new role, Alexei Taran will coordinate the activities of the Energy Community Regulatory Committee, an organization whose mission is to harmonize the rules in the energy sector with European standards.
The representatives of the institution emphasize that the mandate comes in a context where regional energy cooperation and alignment with European standards remain central objectives for the member states of the Energy Community.
