On Saturday, the police thwarted an unauthorized protest by supporters of the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, held on the platform of the Chisinau Railway Station. Law enforcement officers dismantled the tents set up by the protesters, and several young people were taken to police stations, reports IPN.
The “Victorie” bloc, launched by Ilan Shor in Moscow, has accused of “unexplained” detentions and published images showing several young people being picked up by police. The formation specified that the protesters are young people who got off the Ungheni-Chisinau train and “set up a tent city on the platform,” in a flash-mob against the policies of the authorities.
The police have not yet released any information on this matter. Authorities warned the day before that the anti-government protest, called for by the fugitive Ilan Șor, is illegal, and those who respond to the call risk fines of up to 7500 lei. The head of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernauteanu, stated that the purpose of the announced demonstration is to create instability and alerted the public that the fines that will be imposed are greater than the rewards promised by the organizers for participating in the protest.
