The municipal authorities are analyzing, together with partners from Romania, the possibility of installing three additional dams on the Dniester, in the water catchment area, to protect the safety of drinking and technical water. The statement was made by the mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, after the meeting of the Commission for exceptional situations of the municipality, in the context of oil spills in the Dniester, IPN reports.

At the same time, the authorities are considering the installation of additional dams, both in low-lying areas and in the highest ones, downstream and upstream of the hydroelectric power station, to prevent potential risks generated by oil spills.

Throughout the day, options for alternative water consumption in the municipality will be evaluated, including the wells available to authorities and private economic agents, in order to ensure sufficient volumes and eliminate any potential risk. According to the mayor, Chisinau is not facing any danger for drinking water.

At today’s meeting of the Emergency Situations Commission, it was decided that samples should be taken not only at the capture station, but also downstream and upstream, including in localities such as Naslavcea and Rezina.

At the end of last week, the municipal enterprise Apa-Canal Chisinau installed two protective barriers on the Dniester River, near the water intake station at Vadul lui Voda. The measure was taken to prevent potential problems caused by upstream oil pollution.
