The Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, will conduct a working visit to the United States of America from February 23-25, where he will participate in the Transatlantic Gas Security Summit. The official will have meetings with partners and representatives of the energy sector. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and attract investments in the field, reports IPN.

The agenda includes discussions with representatives of the US Treasury Department, including the Office of Foreign Assets Control, regarding the impact of the sanctions regime on the energy sector.

The Minister will discuss with the representatives of the World Bank about financing some strategic projects, including the construction of thermoelectric power plants in Chisinau.

Additionally, Dorin Junghietu will address the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas power line, carried out in partnership with the USA. Meetings with representatives of the company conducting the pre-feasibility study are planned.

The program also includes meetings with members of the US Congress and representatives of the State Department regarding American support for reforms in the energy sector. The Minister will also discuss with members of organizations in the gas field, on the subject of developing the Vertical Corridor and diversifying supply sources.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation will examine on Friday the request from Energocom regarding the increase in natural gas prices. The subject was included on the agenda of the ANRE meeting on July 24, reports IPN.

Energocom has requested an increase in the regulated price for consumers connected to low-pressure distribution networks from 13.35 lei to 19.37 lei per cubic meter, excluding VAT.

The request is motivated by the increase in natural gas procurement costs, against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the volatility of international markets. According to Energocom, these have generated an estimated tariff deficit of around 106 million lei.
