Update: The individuals reported missing are out of any danger. According to IGSU, two people managed to leave the car blocked by water and were at home, while they were searched for by authorities throughout the night.
Initial news: The heavy rains on Friday evening caused power outages, temporary roadblocks, and disruptions to rail traffic. The National Crisis Management Center announces that 13 localities were temporarily disconnected from the electricity, three trains were stranded, and a local dam was affected, reports IPN.
In the Calarasi district, Harjauca locality, a partial breach of a dam has caused flooding. Three cars were swept away by the waters, and teams from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and the emergency medical services were mobilized for intervention and evacuation. Four people were rescued from a car trapped in the middle of the waters, and a fifth person is reported missing.
In the energy sector, there have been breakdowns in the electrical transport network: a malfunction at the Vulcanesti station led to the mobilization of intervention teams. The Isaccea line is kept under tension from Romania, but reconnection cannot yet be made due to technical problems. Specialists monitor consumption and technical parameters, and the full restoration work is estimated for Sunday, depending on weather conditions.
According to CNMC, rail traffic was also affected: three trains had to stand still for several hours on the route due to water accumulation. The Chisinau-Kiev train, with 142 passengers on board, was blocked near the Parlit station due to the flooding of the railway section, after which it resumed its movement at a reduced speed. Currently, the authorities mention that there are no more blocked trains.
At the same time, the activity of the “Eugen Doga” Chisinau International Airport is proceeding normally. Some aircraft were temporarily held due to the atmospheric front, however, landings have resumed safely.
The authorities continue to monitor the weather situation and recommend that the population avoid traveling to flooded areas and not cross roads covered by water.
