The cabinet of ministers convenes today in an extraordinary meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, reports IPN.
The government is set to review and approve the proposal to declare an environmental alert state on the Dniester river basin for a period of 15 days. The authorities clarify that this decision is necessary to allow the implementation of additional measures and interventions in the immediate future.
“Considering the ongoing wave of oil pollution, resulting from Russia’s attack on the Novodnistrovsk hydroelectric power station, and the need to take additional action to limit the contamination of the river, the establishment of a state of alert has been proposed,” declared the Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder.
After the executive meeting, the minister will hold a press conference where he will provide details about the approved decisions.
The meeting is announced for 03:00 PM.
