The Republic of Moldova and Romania are deepening their strategic partnership to ensure concrete benefits for citizens on both sides of the Prut River. The special nature of the relationship between the two countries was reaffirmed in a telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, and the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Oana Țoiu, reports IPN.
Mihai Popșoi wished Oana Țoiu success in her mandate and invited her to visit the Republic of Moldova in the near future.
During the discussion, the heads of the two diplomacies emphasized the importance of the constant support offered by Romania for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, as well as for the development of joint projects in priority areas.
“Romania remains the closest partner of the Republic of Moldova, and its support for our European path, energy security, connectivity and economic development is very important,” declared Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Oana Țoiu is a member of Parliament in Romania representing USR, re-elected in 2024 after a first mandate starting in 2020.With an academic background in communication and public policies, Ţoiu has primarily worked in committees dedicated to labor, social protection, and combating human trafficking, as reported by The Financial Newspaper. In the past, he held the position of secretary of state in the Ministry of Labor (2016-2017), where he coordinated policies related to social assistance, poverty reduction, and social inclusion. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the University of Bucharest, later completing an executive program in public policies at Harvard Kennedy School.
The new Government of Romania, led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, received the vote of investiture on Monday evening in the joint plenary of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. That same evening, he took the oath of allegiance in front of the Romanian head of state, Nicușor Dan, and held the first meeting. The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, sent a congratulatory message to the Romanian Prime Minister, in the context of the government’s investiture. “The Republic of Moldova remains a reliable partner and we are confident that we will continue the close cooperation with Romania, for the benefit of the citizens on both banks of the Prut,” the message from Maia Sandu reads.
