The experience of Portugal clearly demonstrates the benefits of joining the European Union, stated the Secretary of State for European Affairs in Chisinau. Ines Domingos reaffirmed Lisbon’s full support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova, during a joint conference with the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, reports IPN.
“Next year marks 30 years since Portugal joined the EU. The accession was a step towards economic growth and strengthening of democracy. Today, the single market offers far more benefits than when we joined. It’s important to continue institutional reforms, with patience and perseverance, to achieve this goal”, declared the Portuguese official.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov highlighted Portugal’s constant support offered to Moldova.
“I expressed our country’s gratitude for the strong support that Portugal offers to our European journey. Portugal’s experience in modernizing and strengthening institutions is a good example for us”, declared Cristina Gherasimov.
The agenda of the discussions covered the priorities of the Chisinau Government for the coming years, among these being the strengthening of the rule of law, the reform of the judiciary and the modernization of public administration.
