Update: The director of Pruncul Prison is accused of corruption, rape, and sexual harassment. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office confirmed this information to IPN.
Original news: The Chisinau District Court, Ciocana branch, granted the prosecutors’ request and ordered that Eduard Timofei, director of Penitentiary No. 9 – Pruncul, who was detained on Wednesday in connection with a corruption case, be held in pretrial detention for 30 days, IPN reports.
According to the court, the preventive measure will be enforced in the detention center of the National Anticorruption Center. The decision can be appealed to the Central Court of Appeal within three days.
Contacted by IPN, the representatives of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have not yet provided additional details about the case.
The prison director’s detention had been previously announced by the National Prison Administration, without any details being provided about the facts under investigation or the suspicions that led to the measure.
Following the press release issued by the ANP, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office only specified that the official is under investigation for suspicions of corruption and other abuses.
