The Director of Pruncul Penitentiary, Eduard Timofei, detained in July in a case where he is investigated for corruption offenses, rape, and sexual harassment, has been released from isolation and placed under house arrest. The measure was ordered by the Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters, starting from September 6.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office clarified for IPN that the court partially admitted the prosecutor’s request and ordered the application of preventive measures in the form of house arrest. The state prosecutors have appealed the decision to the Central Court of Appeal.

Eduard Timofei was detained on July 8 by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, and subsequently the court ordered his preventive arrest. Until now, law enforcement has not provided details about the charges brought against the prison director.

Timofei’s defense previously stated that the corruption charge refers to an alleged act committed about two and a half years ago, and asserts that there is no evidence to confirm the imputed act.
