The Central Court of Appeal dismissed, as unfounded, the appeals filed by the lawyers of the president of the Ocnita territorial office of the former Sor political party, upholding the first instance verdict sentencing him to four years in prison. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office points out that this is the first decision pronounced by an appeal court in cases concerning the illegal financing of a political party, reports IPN.
By the verdict of September 26, 2025, the leader of the former Sor political party, declared unconstitutional, was found guilty of committing the crime of complicity in knowingly accepting the financing of the political party from an organized criminal group.
In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant was deprived, for a period of four years, of the right to hold leadership positions in political parties and to carry out financial management or logistical organization activities within them.
Furthermore, the court ordered the confiscation in favor of the state of approximately 1.66 million lei from the defendant’s account, representing the funds used in the commission of the crime. Also, the seizure measure imposed on the defendant’s assets was upheld by the appellate court.
