The Court of Appeal has concluded the examination of evidence in the Ciochina case, the pleadings are to follow

The case of the fatal accident that occurred in 2024 in Boldurești, Nisporeni, is nearing its end. The judges of the Central Court of Appeal have concluded the investigation of the evidence, but the session was interrupted at the request of Nicanor Ciochina’s lawyer, who asked for additional time to prepare for the judicial debates, a stage in which the parties will present their final pleas. The next session is scheduled for May 21, reports IPN.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, Nicanor Ciochina and his accomplice, Ion Andronache, will remain in custody until a final decision is made by the Court of Appeal.

Contacted by IPN, one of Ciochina’s lawyers, Dumitru Buliga, stated that the former mayor continues to request his acquittal. The defender expressed optimism regarding a favorable outcome for his client.

On the other hand, the victim’s family lawyer, Dorin Podlisnic, told IPN that the former mayor has no chance of avoiding punishment. He added that Ion Andronache maintains his previous statements, in which he admitted to helping Ciochina hide the traces of the accident. During Tuesday’s session, Ciochina’s lawyers requested his transfer from Penitentiary No. 13 to an open-type penitentiary until the final decision is pronounced. However, the court rejected the request.

At the meeting on April 16, Ion Andronache partially admitted that he might have helped the former mayor to cover up the traces of the fatal accident in Bolduresti, but maintained that he was not aware of it at the time. However, according to PCCOCS, there is evidence proving that he was aware of the accident.

On February 27, the magistrates of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, sentenced Nicanor Ciochina to seven years in prison for the fatal accident of a 14-year-old teenager. His accomplice received a two-year prison sentence, of which six months in penitentiary, and the remainder of the sentence was conditionally suspended.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation will examine on Friday the request from Energocom regarding the increase in natural gas prices. The subject was included on the agenda of the ANRE meeting on July 24, reports IPN.

Energocom has requested an increase in the regulated price for consumers connected to low-pressure distribution networks from 13.35 lei to 19.37 lei per cubic meter, excluding VAT.

The request is motivated by the increase in natural gas procurement costs, against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the volatility of international markets. According to Energocom, these have generated an estimated tariff deficit of around 106 million lei.
