The Council of Europe remains a key partner for the Republic of Moldova in strengthening the rule of law and democratic institutions. The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset in Strasbourg, reports IPN.

The Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that, by exercising the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, Moldova actively contributes to defining the organization’s priorities and reaffirms its strong commitment to the fundamental values of the Council of Europe.

During the discussions, the importance of this mandate was highlighted, as well as the organization, in Chisinau in May, of the Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers. “Foreign ministers from 46 member and partner states will address foreign interference, disinformation, and migration. We are looking for common solutions, in the spirit of the New Democratic Pact for Europe,” mentioned Alain Berset, quoted in a press release from the MAE.

The official reaffirmed the Council of Europe’s strong support for the Republic of Moldova and appreciated the constant cooperation with the authorities in Chisinau, in a regional context marked by multiple challenges.

Mihai Popsoi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Petra Bayr, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The discussions addressed the developments of the organization and cooperation within the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, which Moldova will hold between November 14, 2025 and May 16, 2026.
