The National Anti-Corruption Center has opened an investigation into the diplomas obtained in the Republic of Moldova, following an official complaint filed by the Minister of Health, Emil Ceban. The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokesperson of the CNA, Angela Starinschi.
According to Starinschi, the CNA is checking all the circumstances of the case, to establish the veracity of the documents and possible sources of forgeries. “We will request information and documents from competent institutions and we will work closely with other law enforcement agencies, to ensure a complete, objective, and transparent investigation,” added Angela Starinschi.
In the meantime, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office clarified for IPN that it was not notified by the Romanian authorities in this case, but that it will examine the information that appeared in the public space and will decide the next steps to be taken.
The Minister of Health, Emil Ceban, former rector of the USMF “Nicolae Testemitanu”, stated that he had no reason to doubt the authenticity of the diplomas and asked the authorities of both states to clarify the situation.
The investigation was launched after authorities across the Prut River announced investigations into the residency diplomas of doctors who studied in the Republic of Moldova. Romanian prosecutors suspect forgeries in the documents submitted for the recognition of qualifications, targeting specialties such as emergency medicine, orthodontics, plastic and cosmetic surgery, imaging, and periodontology.
