The rehabilitation and expansion works of Mircea cel Batran Boulevard up to Bucovinei Street, and the rehabilitation of Industriala and Mesager streets in the capital, are set to begin in the second half of next year. The project implementation report was presented by the mayor’s advisor, Ala Mirza, at Tuesday’s meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, reports IPN.

The streets will be auctioned separately, and the works will be carried out in stages. The completion time for each lot is estimated at 24 months from the moment the contracts are signed.

According to Alea Mirza, the project has a budget of €74.3 million and is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with support from external grants. The technical documentation is now in the final stage of approval, after which public procurement procedures will be launched to select contractors.

Rehabilitation implies both the repair of the roadway and the complete modernization of the urban infrastructure, with utility networks, public lighting, lanes dedicated to public transport, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, intelligent traffic light systems and the arrangement of green spaces. In the opinion of the mayor’s counselor, the launch of the works is essential for traffic decongestion, increasing road safety, and the sustainable development of the city.
