The City Hall of Chisinau announces the completion of the surveillance camera installation around the perimeter of the abandoned building of the former National Hotel. In total, 25 cameras were installed, donated by a community association, reports IPN.
The local authority specifies that the entrances have been secured, closed, and fenced off. The general mayor, Ion Ceban, reiterated that the presence of a state guard post is necessary in the area.
The security measures were arranged in the context of the tragedy in which a teenager lost her life, falling from a height from the building of the former hotel.
After the hearing of the situation in the Parliamentary Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order, its president, deputy Lilian Carp, stated that it is proposed to legally oblige the owners of abandoned or under repair buildings to secure them.
The measures would likely include the fencing off of spaces and covering buildings with materials that illustrate, for example, the future appearance of the building, as is done in other countries. In the event of non-compliance by the owners, the work will be carried out by local administrations, with the costs to be borne by the owners.
