The criminal case regarding the shootings at the headquarters of the Central Police Inspectorate was initiated by the Prosecutor General’s Office to avoid any interpretations of covering up the case. The statement was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, after the Government meeting, reports IPN.
Daniella Misail-Nichitin announced that official investigations have been initiated and that the police officer involved in this case, the head and deputy of the Central Police Inspectorate, have been relieved of their duties.
When asked if, following the incident that occurred on the night of December 18 to 19, there will be more layoffs, including the head of the General Police Inspectorate, the minister stated that “three days have passed since the initiation of the service investigation, enough time to clarify all circumstances, to make objective decisions”.
According to information previously presented by Vasile Costiuc, president of the “Democratia Acasa” parliamentary faction, a police officer allegedly opened fire at the Centru Police Station, and bullet marks remained on the walls inside, after almost 30 shots were fired.
Today, the minister clarified that “it’s about a personal weapon, so it wasn’t fired from the issued weapon, the weapon was legally owned. There were 3 shots, not 30”.
As a result of the shooting incident at the headquarters of the Central Police Inspectorate, the targeted police officer and the leadership of the Inspectorate were released: the chief, Lilian Luca, and the deputy chief, Sergiu Muruz.
