Starting from February 24th, a customs duty of 10% is imposed on the import of products originating from Moldova into the United States of America. The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MEDD) mentions that this measure is temporary and uniformly applies to all US trade partners, without specifically targeting the Republic of Moldova or certain Moldovan origin products, reports IPN.
The clarifications are made in the context of recent decisions by the American administration regarding tariff policy. According to the American legal framework, the maximum period for applying this measure is 150 days.
“The authorities of the Republic of Moldova are monitoring developments and maintaining an active dialogue with American partners and the business environment, to ensure accurate information and the necessary support for economic operators,” stated Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, quoted in a press release issued by MDED.
Trade exchanges between the Republic of Moldova and the United States totaled 244.9 million USD in 2025, recording an increase of 8.6% compared to the previous year. The authorities of the Republic of Moldova reaffirm their interest in deepening economic relations with the United States and commit to further promoting the diversification and strengthening of exports to the American market.
