Hospitals and medical centers in Moldova have significant potential for energy savings. Audits conducted for 12 institutions in the country show that they could reduce annual consumption by approximately 7,700 MWh. The necessary investments for implementing the recommended measures amount to 172.8 million lei, reports IPN.
Among the proposed solutions are the thermal insulation of walls, roofs, and floors, replacing windows, upgrading heating systems and heat distribution networks. It is also recommended to switch to LED interior lighting and install photovoltaic systems, including energy storage equipment.
The implementation of these measures would not only bring substantial savings on energy bills, but also environmental benefits: CO₂ emissions could be reduced annually by approximately 2,081.7 tons.
The energy audits were carried out with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Italy.
