Representatives of the Socialist Party, currently in opposition in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, are participating in an economic forum held in Saint Petersburg, in the Russian Federation, where they advocate for a return to direct energy resource acquisitions, presenting this option as a “solution for lower prices in Moldova”, reports IPN.

On the sidelines of the forum, the PSRM delegation, led by the party’s president, Igor Dodon, had a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, during which the need to return to direct purchases of energy resources was emphasized.

“Without intermediaries, a fact that will allow a significant reduction in gas and electricity prices for consumers in the Republic of Moldova,” is stated in a press release from the PSRM.

The representatives of the opposition party have advocated for an “open and pragmatic dialogue”, emphasizing that “it is essential for ensuring the well-being of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova”.

In recent years, the Republic of Moldova has made sustained efforts to free itself from energy dependence on the Russian Federation. After a series of crises in which gas supplies were halted or reduced by Moscow, the Moldovan authorities have developed, starting from 2020, alternative supply routes, managing to eliminate the gas-related blackmail.

The authorities assert that significant progress has been made in the field of energy security. Interconnection projects with the European Union and the diversification of energy sources represent important steps in this direction. Despite vulnerabilities generated by the geopolitical context and the lack of internal resources, the progress made in the field of energy efficiency and the development of renewable sources represent promising prospects for the country’s energy future.
