In front of the Parliament, a protest against the budgetary-fiscal policy proposed by the Ministry of Finance for 2027 took place. Although the action was announced by several opposition deputies, the organizers claim that it does not have a political connotation, as people’s problems do not have a political color. Protesters demand the withdrawal or revision of the document, arguing that the new provisions will affect the population and the business environment, especially the vulnerable categories, reports IPN.
The leader of the political party “Our Party”, Renato Usatîi, stated that people of different ages and with diverse political views are participating in the action, united by their concern about the effects of the fiscal policy promoted by the government. According to the deputy, the consequences will be felt by retirees, young people, and entrepreneurs, and the protests should continue until the authorities abandon the contested proposals.
Ion Chicu, a deputy of the Alternative faction, criticized the intention to increase certain taxes and duties, stating that this is happening in parallel with the increase in public spending. He argued that budget pressures are amplified by the ever-increasing costs of the state debt, noting that next year the state will have to pay approximately seven billion lei just for the interest on it.
The representative of the National Alternative Movement Party, Ion Bulgac, stated that the opposition is participating in the protest to express their disagreement with the provisions of the fiscal policy project for the year 2027. “There are many reasons for dissatisfaction. People need to come out and express their position in order to put pressure on the government,” Bulgac said.
Sergiu Stefanco, a deputy of the Home Democracy Political Party, reminded of the farmers’ protests, dissatisfied with several provisions of the proposed fiscal-budgetary policy for 2027. “It is time for us, the people, to show that we are alive, that we care and do not allow them to do what they want. The power is in the hands of the people, not the government. The people are the real power,” declared Sergiu Stefanco.
The protest takes place in the context of consultations on the budget-fiscal policy project for 2027, promoted by the Ministry of Finance. Several provisions have been criticized by the business environment, unions, and some state institutions. Subsequently, the authors gave up the changes regarding the taxation of salaries and announced that they might also give up the increase in VAT on medicines from 8% to 20%, after the negative opinion of the Ministry of Health, which warns about the impact on the medical system and possible chain price increases for medicines and medical supplies.
