Prime Minister Tofan urges the Gagauz to vote freely, without influences, in the elections of November 15

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan encourages the inhabitants of Gagauzia to participate in the elections on November 15 and to choose their representatives freely and honestly, without being influenced by dirty money, manipulation and lies. The head of the executive says that the central authorities need competent and honest partners in the region’s administration, in order to find solutions to concrete problems, reports IPN.

Addressing the inhabitants of Gagauzia in three languages, the Prime Minister emphasized that the decision regarding the future leadership of the region belongs to the citizens. “The power to decide who will administer the Gagauz autonomy lies in your vote. Not dirty money, not manipulation and lies, but your vote, honest and free. Only fair elections authentically represent the will of the citizens”, declared Vasile Tofan.

According to him, in the last ten years, Gagauzia has benefited from investments of over 140 million lei through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. Also, in the period 2022-2025, 115 investment projects for companies in the region were approved, with grants of over 40 million lei.

At the same time, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to improve regional roads, expand access to water and sewage, and support local economic initiatives. According to him, the Government will continue to invest in the development of localities throughout the country, regardless of the region.

The elections for the position of governor and for the Gagauz People’s Assembly will take place on November 15th. Eight candidates have registered for the governor’s position, while 135 people are running for the 35 mandates in the People’s Assembly.

The President of the Parliamentary Commission for National Security, Defense and Public Order, Lilian Carp, maintains that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a protest note to Kiev after two Ukrainian border guards allegedly illegally entered the territory of the Republic of Moldova on Saturday, during a detention operation, reports IPN.

According to the PAS deputy, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, there have been increasingly more cases of illegal crossing of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, including by individuals trying to avoid military mobilization. He described the incident near the village of Holosnita, Soroca district, as a violation of the border regime.

“In this case, we saw an action of the Ukrainian border guards who allowed themselves to cross the border demarcation line, which represents a serious violation. In relation to these actions are the protest notes and information towards the Ukrainian authorities. This is the first more serious incident in which an attempt was made to pursue up to the crossing line of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs came up with a protest note regarding the illegal crossing”, explained Lilian Carp during the “La 360 de grade” show on Radio Moldova.

Referring to the person pursued by the Ukrainian border guards, the deputy said that this person could benefit from asylum in the Republic of Moldova, as those who flee from war have the right to seek protection.

“Most likely, this person will receive asylum. International law states that people fleeing from war have the right to seek asylum for their safety”, the parliamentarian further stated.

In the context of these statements, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the management of the case did not involve the transmission of a protest note. According to the institution, relevant aspects are discussed through the institutional communication channels between the competent authorities.
