People who have acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova by birth, but do not hold identity documents, will benefit from simplified procedures for confirmation and documentation of their status. According to a bill approved by Parliament, the status of a citizen can be confirmed if it is proven that at least one of the parents is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. The condition is that there should be no legal reasons for refusal, such as the applicant’s involvement in serious crimes, terrorist activities, or risks to state security, reports IPN.
The law aims to facilitate the exercise of citizenship rights and to reduce statelessness cases. At the same time, if grounds for withdrawal of citizenship arise during the checks, the withdrawal procedure is initiated, and the issuance of citizenship confirmation is suspended.
Another provision of the law is that military registration will be carried out exclusively on the basis of the identity document or data from the State Population Register. The law will come into effect after its publication in the Official Gazette.
