An outbreak of avian flu has been confirmed in wild birds on the Dniester River, near the village of Pohrebea in the Dubasari district. In this context, the National Agency for Public Health recommends preventive measures to the population to reduce health risks, reports IPN.

According to ANSP, the risk of transmitting this strain to humans remains low, with most cases of infection with the highly pathogenic influenza A(H5N1) virus being associated with close contact with live or dead infected birds or with environments contaminated with the virus.

The symptoms of infection in humans may include high fever, general malaise, cough, sore throat, and muscle aches. Other early manifestations may be abdominal pain, chest pain, and diarrhea. Infection with the A(H5N1) virus can cause severe forms of illness and has a high mortality rate.

Specialists recommend avoiding contact with sick or dead wild or domestic birds, and with surfaces that could be contaminated. Hands should be washed frequently with water and soap or disinfected. Additionally, it is recommended to prevent contact between wild and domestic birds.
