Number of tents in central square of Chisinau twice higher

On the third day of protest, the number of tents put up in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau has doubled. There were set up a medical unit and a food unit. The people continue to bring food products and blankets, saying this way they express their solidarity with the protesters as they cannot stay in the Square nonstop themselves, IPN reports.

In the evening of the first day of protest, the organizers said there are over 80 tents there. Now their number rose to over 170. “The wish to change the state of affairs mobilized and made sensitive all the people. We make common cause. The number of tents has doubled so far. We all want that change so as to get rid of the oligarchic regime. We are not slaves and do not want to contribute to the enrichment of particular persons. We want to live in a state with the rule of law and want a future at home,” said Inga Grigoriu, a member of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”.

Protester Valentina Taraseivich said that she stayed yesterday during the day and until midnight, but could not stay overnight. She returned in the morning and would stay for the night too, but her age prevents her from doing this. The woman joined in the protest because she wants a better future for the children and grandchildren and because she is tired of officials’ lies.

Another protester Sergiu Torcoman noted that they all intend to remain in the Square until they obtain the resignation of the current government. The protesters didn’t sleep during the night. They discussed between them. It was cold, but the civic spirit helped them resist.

Nistru War veteran Nicolae Besedovschi said that the night was quiet and the protesters are peaceful, while the combatants make sure that there are no provocations. The current administration should leave voluntarily and should accept the people’s will.

The participants in the September 6 demonstration staged by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in the Great National Assembly Square decided to protest nonstop and pitched tents in the Square.

The state of the Transnistrian settlement process and the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol were the discussion topics at the meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Valeriu Chiveri, and the new head of the OSCE Mission in Moldova, Christopher Smith. The officials discussed the most pressing issues of the residents on both banks of the Dniester and the government’s priorities in promoting the country’s reintegration policies, reports IPN.

According to a statement issued by the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, the commitment to a peaceful, lasting, and comprehensive solution to the Transnistrian conflict was reaffirmed during the discussions, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.

The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the efforts of the authorities in Chisinau to ensure quality public services for the residents of the Transnistrian region, through the competent territorial structures on the right bank of the Dniester.

At the same time, measures for the restoration of a unique national space in the social, economic, fiscal, customs, and educational fields were discussed. In this context, Valeriu Chiveri mentioned the mechanisms for the gradual harmonization of customs, fiscal and budgetary taxes, which are to be accumulated in the Convergence Fund.

According to Chisinau, the beneficiaries of these funds are the citizens of the Republic of Moldova residing in the Transnistrian region, and the mechanism will contribute to a more advanced socio-economic reintegration and to reducing the development gaps between the two banks of the Dniester.

Officials have also emphasized the need to respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual in the Transnistrian region.
