The state budget deficit for 2026 will reach approximately 23 billion lei, equivalent to 5.95% of the GDP, following the adjustment approved by the Government on Wednesday. Revenues are estimated at 80.27 billion lei, and expenditures – at 103.35 billion lei, reports IPN.

The provisions are found in the draft amendment to the State Budget Law for the year 2026, presented by the Minister of Finance, Victoria Belous.

The government has approved the additional allocation of approximately 1.3 billion lei for infrastructure works. Out of the total amount, one billion lei will go towards the completion of regional and local development projects, especially in rural localities, while 300 million lei will supplement the Road Fund.

Another 560 million lei are allocated for the exceptional one-time payment granted to certain categories of public servants. They will receive between 2 thousand and 4 thousand net lei, depending on the personnel category, if the average gross salary does not exceed 20 thousand lei.

The project also provides for an increase in transfers to the state social insurance budget of up to 1.6 billion lei.

At the same time, co-financing for projects funded from external sources will be reduced by almost one billion lei. According to the Minister of Finance, the reduction is determined by estimates regarding the disbursement of financial resources from development partners and the provision of services for these projects.

In the revenue chapter, the authorities propose increasing the VAT collections by 600 million lei, the income tax by approximately 220 million lei, and some excise taxes by 134 million lei. At the same time, other collections, including excise taxes, customs duties, and grants, will be reduced.
