The President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, stated in a press conference that “it was a mistake” when he announced that the first negotiation cluster would be opened at the EU-Moldova summit on July 4 in Chisinau, in the process of accession, reports IPN.
At the same time, the leader from Bucharest mentioned that the decision of the European Council, taken during the meeting, supports the transition to the next stage in the accession process of the Republic of Moldova, the one on thematic groups.
In accordance with the conclusions adopted in Brussels, the EU Council has welcomed the pace of reforms carried out by Chisinau and emphasized that the accession process remains a merit-based one, progressing as the established conditions are met. European leaders have reaffirmed their strong support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and resilience of the Republic of Moldova, underlining the EU’s commitment to closely collaborate with Moldovan authorities to counteract attempts at destabilization from Russia, including hybrid attacks targeting democratic institutions.
In conclusion, it is also mentioned that the EU is looking forward to the organization of the first Moldova – EU summit, which is expected to take place on July 4th in Chisinau.
