The dual significance of May 9th in Moldova represents an opportunity to reflect on the immense price of peace and to choose a European future, the only guarantee against the repetition of historical tragedies, asserts Romanian MEP, Dan Barna. In an interview for IPN, the official mentioned that this date symbolizes a pragmatic choice for peace and prosperity through solidarity.
Dan Barna emphasized that social divisions related to this date can be overcome by understanding that respect for the past and aspiration for the future complement each other. The MEP pointed out that while Victory Day marks the end of a historical nightmare, Europe Day symbolizes the political solution that has made permanent peace on the continent.
At the same time, the MEP argues that choosing the European path does not imply erasing history or denying national identity, but represents a way to ensure a future where the principle of “Never again” becomes a reality protected by solid institutions.
The official emphasized that Europe is a space where borders become bridges, and conflicts are resolved through dialogue, not weapons. In this context, he urged citizens to see May 9 as a moment when the Republic of Moldova affirms its choice to be part of an extended family, governed by the common values of peace and prosperity.
