Japan will continue to support the democratic processes and the European path of the Republic of Moldova, and the Moldova-Japan relationship will be amplified in several areas. The future of the bilateral cooperation was discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the Japanese Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro.

The prime minister expressed his gratitude for Japan’s constant support, especially for the recent decision to grant a $100 million concessional credit, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The money will be used to strengthen the state’s capacities and carry out development projects in fields such as medicine, energy efficiency, agriculture, education, and environmental protection.

At the same time, Dorin Recean spoke about the financial assistance offered in December 2022 for projects in the field of health, energy and the food industry. “Japan’s support helps our country to be more resilient and contributes to the goal of increasing people’s quality of life. We want to advance in the modernization process, and our strategic objective remains integration into the European Union”, Dorin Recean was quoted in a press release issued by the Government.

“In the Republic of Moldova there are numerous investment opportunities – you have the status of a candidate country for EU accession, you are a good destination for business relocation and you have a large number of young experts in the IT field”, stressed Yamada Yoichiro, as quoted in the same press release.

Also, the Japanese ambassador reiterated that his country appreciates the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to regional security and will continue to provide the necessary support for Moldovan citizens.
