The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had an official meeting in Tirana on Saturday, May 17th, with her Albanian counterpart, Bajram Begaj. The discussions focused on the shared European path of the two states, commitments to maintaining peace and stability in the region, as well as expanding economic relations, with a special emphasis on the tourism sector, IPN reports.
“Moldova and Albania are united by the same choice: the future in the European Union. We support each other, because we want the same thing: free, prosperous, and safe societies for all our citizens,” stated Sandu, underlining the mutual support between the two countries, both candidates for EU membership.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Albania in the field of European integration. The document includes exchanges of experience and best practices, intended to support and accelerate the process of EU accession. Albania, which reached a record of 10 million tourists in 2024, is becoming increasingly active on the economic map of the region, and the authorities in Chisinau see this model as an opportunity for development and diversification of bilateral relations.
