The price of emergency electricity procured from Romania is much higher than the price of regular energy, but this purchase was necessary to avoid disconnections. This is stated by the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, who explained that due to bombings on the Ukrainian energy system, Chisinau was forced to procure emergency energy from Romania. The Minister emphasized that the price will only be known at the end of the month, reports IPN.
Dorin Junghietu explained that over the weekend, in order to maintain system stability and avoid power outages, Chisinau was forced to resort to emergency imports.
“With the synchronization of the energy system of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine into a common block, our energy system is balanced by Ukraine. On Friday night and Saturday morning, there were massive attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, production capacities, distribution and transport systems were affected. In order to maintain stability and to avoid interruptions, we had to take emergency electricity from Romania, for three hours. We are talking about 270 MW”, said the minister during the “În Context” show on the public television station.
The Minister emphasized that emergency electricity is considerably more expensive than the usual one. “We will only know the price of emergency energy at the end of the month, but it is usually much more expensive. It can even reach a price of 300-400 euros per MW”, explained the Minister of Energy.
At the same time, Dorin Junghietu appealed to the population for a rational consumption of energy, especially during peak hours. According to him, with the onset of the cold season, the consumption of electrical energy has increased considerably.
“I appeal for a rational use of energy, especially during peak hours, when consumption is at its highest. Now, with the onset of the cold season, the consumption curve has significantly changed. If during the summer the peak consumption started at 6 PM until 11 PM, now we observe a consumption of over 700 MW starting from 9 AM. The highest energy consumption is located in the Chisinau region”, stated Dorin Junghietu.
