Helen McEntee, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Minister for Defence of Ireland, is expected in Chisinau on the occasion of the inauguration of the Irish embassy in the Republic of Moldova. The invitation was sent by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during discussions held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, reports IPN.
During the meeting with Helen McEntee, Mihai Popsoi appreciated Ireland’s support in the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union and its interest in intensifying cooperation, including in the perspective of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026.
The discussions also focused on advancing negotiations regarding the recognition of driving licenses and providing social protection to Moldovan citizens residing in Ireland, as well as Irish citizens in the Republic of Moldova.
On the sidelines of the Munich Conference, taking place between February 13-15, Mihai Popsoi had meetings with his counterparts from Denmark, Czech Republic, and Serbia. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, regional security, the European path of the Republic of Moldova, and expanding economic relations.
