The Center for Independent Journalism (CJI) and other media NGOs express concern over the suspension of TVC21’s broadcasting license and urge the authorities to review the decision, IPN reports.
On March 27, the Council for the Promotion of Nationally Significant Investment Projects (CPPIIN) announced the decision to suspend TVC21’s license, citing the station’s failure to submit complete documents and information regarding its administrative activities.
CJI emphasizes that “the legal mechanism applied by CPPIIN clearly contradicts international standards”.
In its statement, CJI asserts that imposing such a severe restriction “constitutes a serious interference with the right to free expression.” Media organizations also reiterate that this measure is “disproportionate and contrary to the purpose of protecting legitimate interests in a democratic society”.
Additionally, the signatories of the statement highlight that mechanisms similar to those applied in the case of TVC21 have previously been declared unconstitutional.
Among the media organizations that have joined CJI’s statement are the Access-Info Center, the Committee for Press Freedom, the Association of Environmental and Ecological Tourism Journalists, and the Center for Investigative Journalism.
