The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is on an official visit to Montenegro at the invitation of her counterpart, Jakov Milatović. This is the first official visit of a President of the Republic of Moldova to Montenegro and marks an important step in deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Maia Sandu held talks in Podgorica with President Milatović, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić. The talks focused on the cooperation between the two countries in the context of the European integration process, as well as on the possibility of expanding cooperation in areas of common interest, IPN reports.
“Moldova and Montenegro are on the same road – the road to the European Union. We talked about how we can work more closely together on this journey so that people in both countries can have a better life. The European Union is already bringing positive changes through projects and investments, and if we work together, we can achieve even more,” said President Maia Sandu.
For his part, the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, emphasized the symbolic and strategic nature of the visit, highlighting the common values and goals that bind the two countries.
“This visit is an important moment in the relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Moldova, confirming close and friendly ties based on shared values and commitment to the European perspective. Montenegro remains committed to further strengthening interstate relations with Moldova and promoting strategic partnership on the European path”, said Milatović.

Both countries aspire to full membership of the European Union and share common values on the rule of law, democracy and sustainable development. Montenegro, which is already at an advanced stage of accession negotiations, is a partner for the Republic of Moldova in the process of adopting European standards and legislative harmonization.
