A lawyer is brought before the court, accused of demanding money to influence the employees of the Donduseni Probation Office, so as to postpone the incarceration proceedings of a man convicted of domestic violence. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has completed the criminal investigation and forwarded the case to court, reports IPN.
According to investigators, the woman allegedly asked for money from the convict’s wife, promising that she could intervene with probation staff to avoid replacing the suspended sentence with the actual execution of the punishment. The convict did not show up for probation, and the authorities were about to initiate the incarceration process.
The lawyer fully acknowledged her guilt, and the case was forwarded for review to the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters.
For the offense of influence peddling, the legislation stipulates a fine between 100,000 and 1,500,000 lei or imprisonment of up to 6 years, to which the prohibition of exercising certain activities may be added.
Considering that the defendant has admitted her guilt, she may benefit from a reduction of one third of the maximum penalty provided by law.
