The pronounced migration of the working-age population, informal employment, and the high level of inactive population continue to affect the labor market in the Republic of Moldova. The labor shortage in urban centers and the lack of economic opportunities in other regions of the country are challenges that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection is paying attention to, reports IPN.

Minister Natalia Plugaru stated, within the framework of the “Labour Market Development” working group, held on the platform of the Economic Council alongside the country’s prime minister, that the ministry is actively involved in the transposition of the community acquis concerning the free movement of workers and in initiating the drafting of a new National Employment Program for the period 2027–2030.

“The labor market is evolving rapidly, and our policies must keep pace with these changes. Through active employment measures, vocational training, and constant dialogue with employers and social partners, we aim to harness the potential of the workforce and create sustainable jobs. These efforts are essential for a competitive economy and an inclusive society”, emphasized the minister, as quoted in a press release.

The representatives of civil society present at the meeting highlighted the opportunity to amend legislation to value volunteering experience in the hiring process for all age categories. Also, the need to adjust and expand the compensation program for young people at their first job was emphasized.

The Economic Council under the Prime Minister brings together experts, decision-makers, representatives of the academic environment, the associative sector and international organizations, with the role of coordinating public policies and strategic initiatives in the economic and social field.
