Greece can contribute to improving the energy security of the Republic of Moldova through the southern energy corridor. The statement belongs to the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is on an official visit to Chisinau. The Greek Prime Minister referred to the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis, through which new gas can reach the Republic of Moldova and Romania, as reported by IPN.
During a joint conference with President Maia Sandu, the Greek Prime Minister emphasized that the functionality of this corridor would allow Greece to become a secure service provider throughout the region.
“We discussed today how we can ensure that this corridor operates well and is competitive in terms of price, which would be very important for the Republic of Moldova”, stated the Greek Prime Minister.
Maia Sandu and Kyriakos Mitsotakis also talked about increasing bilateral trade, strengthening business connections, cooperation in IT, and developing tourism.
Mitsotakis reaffirmed strong support for Moldova’s European path and mentioned that Greece is ready to share its experiences in order to contribute to a faster accession process.
This is the first official visit of a Greek Prime Minister to the Republic of Moldova.
“Today our political dialogue is stronger than ever. We have agreed that we need to do more in terms of economy, investments, and infrastructure”, stated President Maia Sandu during the press conference.
Both leaders mentioned that they attended the summit in Odesa on Wednesday, where they reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in the context of the war launched by Russia.
