The Court of Appeal has found a judge guilty of perjury. In 2024, the first instance had acquitted him, considering that the act did not meet the constitutive elements of the offense. However, the judge escaped criminal punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, reports IPN.

According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the magistrate, obliged to declare his personal wealth and that of his family, would have intentionally provided incorrect information in the declarations of wealth and personal interests during the period 2018-2021. In the official documents, the wife’s income, totaling approximately 900 thousand lei, would not have been accurately reflected.

Although the defendant did not admit his guilt, the appellate court considered the evidence presented to be relevant and conclusive, establishing his guilt. Following the decision of the Court of Appeal, the prosecutors’ appeal was admitted, and the previous decision pronounced by the Hancesti Court was completely annulled.

The decision is enforceable from the moment of adoption, but it can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.
