A suspended judge, targeted in the “Laundromat” case, was found guilty by the Central Court of Appeals, after being acquitted by the first instance in October 2023. The court found that the magistrate knowingly issued three decisions contrary to the law, but he was released from punishment due to the statute of limitations for criminal liability, reports IPN.
The case, opened in 2016 following the self-notification of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, targets civil decisions issued in the period 2011-2012, when the judge was president of the Telenești Court. These concerned debts of tens and hundreds of millions of dollars, based on unauthenticated copies, without signatures, stamps or translations, which required the rejection of the requests.
According to PA, the decisions allowed the transfer of amounts exceeding one billion dollars into the accounts of judicial executors, subsequently used in an international money laundering scheme, and the magistrate’s decisions apparently conferred legality on these transactions.
