The deputies of the “Alternativa” faction have proposed a project that provides for greater state support for the repatriation of deceased citizens abroad. The initiative aims to partially cover the costs in certain situations, such as deaths resulting from serious accidents, natural disasters, social cases or the deaths of diplomatic corps employees, reports IPN.
The project envisages several measures, including the establishment of an emergency telephone line within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which should subsequently provide all necessary information and contacts for repatriation procedures within three days. Also, the choice of the funeral service company should remain exclusively at the family’s discretion, without mandatory intermediation.
Another component of the initiative aims at digitizing processes through the launch of the repatriation.gov.md platform, where applications could be submitted online, with a resolution term of up to ten working days.
At the same time, it is proposed to create a special support fund for repatriation, managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and subject to the audit of the Court of Accounts, which could be further funded, including from donations. The document also provides for the extension of international cooperation through bilateral agreements, to simplify the recognition of civil status documents. The initiative is to be examined in parliamentary committees.
