Prosperity and economic development cannot exist when there is no security, political pundit Igor Boțan stated in a debate hosted by IPN. He noted that when the security situation worsens, the young ones immediately pack up.
“We see what is going on inside the country. There are all kinds of protests orchestrated from outside the country. The people have the right to protest when they are governed poorly, but when things are related to the capacity of this Government not when the reasons are induced from outside by unbalancing the energy market all over Europe. This attracts unprecedented inflation. Respectively, these people appear and ask for support without being interested in something else,” said the permanent expert of IPN’s project.
He noted that Natalia Gavrilița could have been a good Premier in times of peace, not when there is a war on the border.
“The mandate entrusted to the PAS by the citizens was a peaceful one as the situation was fully different. Respectively, the situation should be tackled through the angle of the newly created situation or we will be unable to overcome it. In these very difficult circumstances, when there is a regional war that upset all the initial calculations, the government had to resort to the replacement of the Cabinet,” stated Igor Boțan.
According to him, the pro-European opposition parties should combine forces so as to achieve the country desideratum – the European integration. The Government should do its best for the nine conditions imposed by the European Union after granting the EU candidate status to Moldova to be fulfilled.
“The EU consistently helps the Republic of Moldova and this assistance is very important for paying partially the bills. Prospects will open to the Republic of Moldova if the pro-European faces really manage to unite. That’s why all the parties that have staff and bodies should be regarded as potential partners in the further development. There are chances for the accession negotiations to be opened until the end of this year. If this happens and negotiations start, this Government will go down in history and it should take the Republic of Moldova to the EU,” said the political expert.
As to the second priority in the Government’s program- revitalization of the economy, Igor Boțan said the PAS tied the rise in social welfare to economic growth.
“The message for the whole society was that if we develop our economy and have economic growth, there is automatically a formula that comers after economic growth and that influences the size of social payments for different sections of society. I consider this approach is the most correct one, but there can be deviations from it when there is the possibility of ensuring a jump in a particular sector of the economy. The Government should take this thing into account so as to create perspectives for the future,” stated Igor Boțan.
As to the mistakes made by the Gavrilița Government, which the Cabinet led by Dorin Recean should avoid, he emphasized the defective communication of the former government with the citizens. “They were busy, we see, but communication should be fundamental,” noted the expert.
He also said that the country’s development course to which the current government tends is supported by most of the citizens: “Opinion polls show that over 50% of the citizens support the path of integration into the EU and this is the legitimacy of the PAS government. Together with the diaspora, we can be sure that about 70-80% of the Moldovans support the European course,” he stated.
