Eight people could enter the race for the position of Governor of Gagauzia in the elections on November 15th. For the 35 mandates in the Gagauzian Popular Assembly, 138 people have submitted their registration documents. The data is provided by the electoral authorities after the end of the document submission period, reports IPN.
According to them, the race for the position of governor has already registered Fiodor Gagauz, from the Socialist Party, and independent candidates – deputy Alexandr Stoianoglo and former democratic deputy Corneliu Dudnic. Also, the former socialist deputy Ivanna Koksal, the mayor of Comrat municipality, Serghei Anastasov, and the mayor of Copceac village, Oleg Garizan, have submitted their documents.
The other two contenders are Ivan Cilcic, nominated by the Gagauz Popular Party, and Petru Vlah, nominated by the “New Historical Option” Party, after initially intending to run as an independent. The Central Electoral Council of Gagauzia specifies that the candidates’ files will be checked within a maximum of seven days from submission, after which the authority will decide on registration or refusal of registration.
Regarding the elections for the People’s Assembly, 138 candidates have registered in the 35 constituencies. Of these, 95, or about 69%, are running independently, and 43 have been designated by political parties.
The majority of party candidates were appointed by PSRM – 23 in number. The Gagauz Popular Party has nine candidates, the “Moldovenii” Alliance – seven, and the “For the Country” Party and the National Alternative Movement – two each. Out of the 138 appointed individuals, 23 are women and 115 are men.
So far, the electoral bodies have examined and approved the registration of 34 candidates, with the remaining files still under review. The highest competition is in the Comrat no. 2 and Chirsova no. 26 constituencies, where seven candidates have been designated each. On the other hand, in the Chioselia Rusa no. 33 constituency, only one candidate has been designated.
