The protective embankment along the Prut River, spanning a section of 13 kilometers near the villages of Tiganca, Tiganca Noua, Gheltosu, and Stoianovca in the Cantemir district, will be reinforced. According to the Ministry of Environment, the works have been initiated to reduce the risk of flooding, after years in which locals lived in fear of water overflow, reports IPN.
The intervention aims to prevent natural disasters in the area, so that the inhabitants on the banks of the Prut can live and work safely, without the risk of heavy rains or rising water levels affecting their households and lands.
The state manages 59 dams with a total length of approximately 700 km. Their condition is evaluated by the authorities as being very good, good, or satisfactory.
In the year 2024, the “Apele Moldovei” Agency allocated 49 million lei for repair and maintenance works on the embankments. For the current year, the budget for these works has been increased to 105 million lei.
