Every fifth employee in Moldova earns less than 7 thousand lei for a full workload. These are the data from the National Bureau of Statistics for the month of September, in units with four or more employees and in all budgetary institutions, reports IPN.

According to BNS, the average gross monthly wage in September was 14,692 lei, and 5% of employees had minimum wages of 5,500 lei.

Less than half of the employees – 46.9% – had salaries ranging between 7,000 and 15,000 lei, and a third earned more than this amount.

Compared to September 2024, the proportion of employees who had a minimum wage decreased by 0.4 percentage points, while the proportion of those with salaries over 10 thousand lei increased by 6.2 percentage points, these being nominal increases, unadjusted for inflation.

Traditionally, the highest paying fields are communications and energy production and supply, where 81% and, respectively, 72.3% of employees earn over 15 thousand lei. The proportion of employees earning over 25 thousand lei in these two sectors is 49.4% and, respectively, 26%.

In agriculture and accommodation activities, minimum wages of 5,500 lei are received by 15.4% and, respectively, 10.7% of employees.

For the next year, the authorities propose a minimum wage of 6,300 lei and forecast an average wage of 17,400 lei.
